Joanna E. Kabala
Born in 1965 in Gdańsk, Poland. Lives in the Netherlands.

Master of Painting and Graphics at the PWSSP, Fine Arts Academy in Gdańsk, PL (1984-1989). She received a postgraduate scholarship from the Minister of Culture and Art.
Master in Applied Informatics, De Montfort University in Leicester, UK (1993-1994).
Between 1986 and 1995 she has developed a distinctive design style while collaborating with several artistic groups: Yo Als Jetzt, Wydawnictwo Kubańskie Cycki, Transitory Formation TOTART, Gallery-Workshop C14~~~(together with Andrzej Awsiej and Marek Rogulski), and also Awsiej Kabala Project, Open Atelier Foundation and C.U.K.T.
While working with other artists, she co-created concepts, made posters, leaflets, stencils and small press publications, diaporamic slides, scenographies, and since 1992 graphics and computer animations, among others computer film ChRzW - Homemade Virtual Reality.
In 1996, she moved to the Netherlands, where she worked as an Interaction Designer at Philips Design, participating in a pioneering research program focused on including fine arts in the industrial design process. On a long-term assigment at Self-Adapting Media Group of Philips Research, she was involved in an experimental PAINT for Ambient Intelligence project, which proposed a generative design approach to achieve intelligent system adaptation.
In addition to numerous visualizations, one of the results of this creative and research work is a patented method of obtaining profiles of computer system users.
Since 2002, as vangdansk, she has been co-producing artistic projects, exploring the use of digital techniques in creating images, book illustrations, and animated art documents.
Currently, she works mainly on individual art projects, drawing inspiration from the wide field of popular science. From physics, which examines the nature of reality, to psychology, which introduces the knowledge of archetypes. She believes that by searching through these fields, the meaning of human existence can be defined.
Technologically, she continues to explore the application of digital tools, amongst others, the Generative AI Art in the creation process.
She has received the Award of the Mayor of Gdańsk in the Field of Culture in 2016 and 2021.
Her artworks have been acquired into the 20th and 21st Century Art Collection of the Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź, Poland.
